We have shared a few hacks here, some of them will save you time, some will save you money, and some will help you in taking good care of your clothes.

Sounds good? So, let’s read 8 laundry hacks that will be very helpful to you:

Remove Stains Using Chalk

It is possible to cut down the cost of laundry supplies and still remove stains effectively. You just have to prepare stain removers at home instead of using commercial ones. For example, you can mix equal quantities (1 tablespoon each) of distilled white vinegar and baking soda. Use this mixture to remove various oil-based stains. It is cost-effective and you will not expose your garments to chemicals every time they get a stain.

You can refer to our guide to stain removal and see specific homemade stain removers that work on different types of stains. You can make suitable stain removers and use them while doing laundry at home.

Remove Wrinkles Using Ice

What about the days when you don’t feel like ironing? You can simply toss a handful of ice cubes into the dryer and put the wrinkled cloth inside. Now, set the dryer on its hottest cycle and run it for 5 minutes. When the ice will melt it will release steam that relaxes the fibres and wipes away wrinkles. Make sure the garment can be processed in a machine before using this method to remove wrinkles.

Hang the garment right after putting it out from the dryer. Press the collar, seams or cuffs with your hands and you’ll have a wrinkle-free garment without ironing. This method is only effective on light-weighted clothes. This means you can expect this hack to remove wrinkles from your tees, shirts & trousers but not from your coats, blankets or bed sheets. You can send such clothes to laundromats for steam-ironing after washing them. Professionals do steam ironing with perfection and they can definitely help you with a wrinkle-free crisp finish in all your clothes.

Get Rid Of Crimples While Ironing

Spread a layer of foil sheet below the garment

Isn’t it a bit frustrating when you are ironing a tee and the other side keeps on getting crumbled? The kitchen foil roll is here to rescue. You just have to layer the foil sheet on your ironing board. Place the garment on top of the foil and iron as usual. The other side of the garment will not crumple. And you will be able to iron clothes better and faster.

Make Your Towels Fresh To Use

Laundering towels is quite a task. While you can’t really wash them daily, you can still keep them fresh. If you notice that your towels are stinky then you can do a “two-cycle fix”. Basically, you have to launder the towel twice but with a twist.

At first, you will have to launder using vinegar instead of detergent. You can consider it as an “all vinegar load”. Put your towels having a bad odour in the washer. Pour a cup of vinegar (approximately 250ml) into the detergent dispenser of your machine. And then run the wash cycle as usual. Once this cycle ends, you can run another one. This time use baking soda instead of detergent. Add 1 cup of baking soda to the washer directly and run the cycle as usual. Once it ends, take out the towels. You can air-dry them or put them in the dryer. That’s it. You will have fresh-smelling towels that you can use a couple of times extra before washing.

Unshrink Your Woollens

You don’t have to be sad over a shrunken sweater anymore. Just take 1 bucket of lukewarm water and mix 2 tablespoons of shampoo. The key here is to use baby shampoo as it is milder than regular shampoos, so there will be no chances of any further damage to your woollen.

Soak the shrunken sweater or any other woollen item in water for 10 minutes. Take it out and lay it on a clean and flat surface. Don’t rinse or squeeze the woollen. Use a white dry towel to blot the extra water. It will be a time-consuming process as there will be quite a lot of water in the woollen. Next, just stretch the sweater back to its original size. Then, let it air-dry or under direct sunlight.

This is very effective in the case where wool fibres are not completely or permanently damaged. However, you should try this hack as soon as the garment shrinks, not after months of re-washing and drying. Because that will damage the fibres.

Pro-tip: You can try this hack on your 100% cotton and linen clothes too if they are shrunken.

Prevent Fading Of Dark Clothes

The internet is full of suggestions on how to take care of white clothes. But, People don’t talk about how to keep black and dark-coloured clothes as good as new. You can simply put a cup of salt into the washer directly. And then, run your wash cycle as usual. The chloride will help in sealing the colours. Hence, it will prevent fading.
This hack is best to try on newly bought bright or dark clothes. The good part is that salt doesn’t contain harmful ingredients so it is safe to use on almost all fabrics. Some people claim that it can restore faded colours as well, however, that is not true. In case your clothes have already become dull or faded, this hack will not help.

Dry Large Clothes Faster

It is simple to hang dry small (baby wear, lingerie, socks, etc.) and medium-sized (shirts, trousers, tees, etc.) clothes. However, it is not that easy to hang-dry large clothes (like sarees, bed sheets, dupattas, etc.). For some people, it is a real struggle to somehow hang large garments. We have a simple hack to make the whole thing easy.

Place 2-3 hangers on the hanger stand or rope (anything that you use to hang-dry clothes regularly) on a gap of 10-20 inches. Then take the fabric, let’s suppose, a bed sheet and spread it over the rope/hanger stand in a way that it should lie above the hangers you have placed. They will keep a gap between two sides of the garment you are drying. And it will dry quickly. You can use more hangers if the fabric is very large and you notice two sides sticking together.

Remove Chewing Gum From Clothes

Chewing gums are super sticky, and it is definitely not a good sight to have them stuck on your clothes. People often try to remove gums using a knife, sticks or fingers. But it does not work always and creates a mess as well.

A quick and simple hack is to place the garment in the freezer for 1-2 hours. It will harden the gum and it will be easier to scrape it off using a knife or spoon. If there is still some gum residue on the garment you can rub 1-2 ice cubes and then scrape it off. Otherwise, you can rinse the area using warm water and remove the residue by rubbing it with a toothbrush.
